Commonly known as Botox® although there are several approved brands

Botox is injected into the muscles which cause lines on movement. Most frequently this includes the three ‘basic’ areas: the frown, forehead lines and crow’s feet. Botox limits muscle movement, softening these lines and, with consistent use, preventing them from becoming more ingrained.

Advanced Botox

With Judicious and expert use of Botox, we can utilise its effect on muscles to provide lift. This is particularly useful for the eyebrows and the corners of the mouth. It can also be used for the jaw-line – the so-called Nefertiti lift (The Egyptian queen Nefertiti is said to have the perfect jaw-line)

Other commonly used advanced indications for Botox include lip lines (commonly known as smokers’ lines or barcode lines (you don’t have to be a smoker to get them – they are expressive lines)) and the treatment of sweating (hyperhidrosis) amongst much else.

The procedure takes around 15 minutes. It is not painful although there is some slight stinging. The area will be a little red after the injection but this will only last about an hour, enabling you to have the procedure performed during lunch if required.

It takes several days for Botox to start to work and can take up to 2 weeks to be fully effective.

Our clients most common questions

What is Botox?
Botox is a Prescription Only Medicine. It is a purified preparation of the toxin derived from the bacterium Clostridium botulinum. It works by temporarily inhibiting the electrical impulse to the muscle being treated, limiting that muscles movement.
Is Botox a poison?
Yes, it is, but then so is everything by degree. The dose of botulinum toxin used for cosmetic purposes is unimaginably small.
Can Botox cause any long-term problems?
Botox has been used for both medical and cosmetic purposes for a number of decades over many millions of patients across the world. There is no evidence of any long term effects, either in the treatment area or elsewhere in the body.
What sort of lines is Botox used for?
Botox is typically used for dynamic lines i.e. the sort of lines that occur on muscular contractions. Because of this, if lines are ingrained at rest, Botox will not remove them. It may soften them and it can help to prevent them become deeper.
How long will the results last?
A first treatment with Botox usually lasts around 3 months. This typically increases with subsequent treatments to between 4 and 6 months depending on individual response.
Will I look frozen?
A combination of expertise, experience and an eye for the aesthetically pleasing means that the frozen look can be avoided. The typical feedback my clients get is that they look ‘fresher’ or ‘rested’ or even ‘less angry’ but that the observer can’t say what is different.
But I want to look frozen!
All treatments are tailored to individual requirements. We are happy to discuss your requirements to determine if we can meet them safely. Excessive use of Botox carries with it inherent risk which we would not take.
I’m pregnant/breastfeeding, can I have Botox?
Sorry, no. The risk is unknown since no research would ever be undertaken on pregnant or breastfeeding women. Medical ethics dictate therefore that it is not a risk worth taking.
